A Date with Fonzie was the tenth episode in the third season of Happy Days, also, the 49th overall episode in the series. Co-written by Lowell Ganz and Mark Rothman, the episode, directed by Jerry Paris, originally aired on ABC-TV on November 11, 1975.

Synopsis[]

With Richie in a dating slump, Fonzie sets Richie and himself up on a double date with two of his girls, Laverne and Shirley.

Storyline[]

When Richie breaks up with his long time girlfriend, he finds himself in a dating slump, and difficult to ask a girl out so he asks Fonzie for help. He decides to take Richie to the supermarket, where he says he can meet and pick up girls. But it doesn't turn out so well, so Fonzie decides to try another approach—he will call two women in his black book and they will have a double date. After a little help from Fonzie ends in yet another failed attempt, Fonzie thinks he's found the perfect girls, whom he's friends with, for a double date—Laverne DeFazio and Shirley Feeney.

The two, Laverne and Shirley, who work at Shotz Brewery, well, they're not exactly what some would call "wholesome". But eventually they go back to Richie's where he's all alone because the family went to visit a relative. When Fonzie takes Laverne to his place he leaves Richie with Shirley and things heat up when his family comes back.

Notes[]

This episode introduces Penny Marshall as Laverne DeFazio and Cindy Williams as Shirley Feeney. They would subsequently star in their own series, which is a spin-off of Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley from 1976 to 1983.
