"Richie's Cup Runneth Over" is the third episode of the first season of Happy Days. The episode was written by William S. Bickley and Bob Brunner and directed by Jerry Paris. It aired on January 29, 1974, on ABC.

Plot[]

At Arnold's Drive-In, girls are gathered around Fonzie and they observe a prank in progress being played on a waitress. Richie goes over to Potsie to tell him about the prank, but Potsie tells him about his cousin Arnold Drysdale's stag party that they have been invited to.

Chuck bounces a basketball through the living room as Richie comes home and asks Howard if he can go to the party instead of visiting with his aunt Bessie. Howard gives him permission to go, telling him to take it easy.

Richie and Potsie drink a large amount of milk to prevent themselves from getting drunk, but Fonzie suggests olive oil instead, which Potsie cannot get at Arnold's.

They go to the party, where they notice all of the beer and are passed cards with dirty pictures on them. Potsie gets some olive oil and they drink some as the drinking games start. However, they soon become drunk and the entertainment, Verna LaVerne is brought out and after her performance, she takes the intoxicated Richie home.

Howard takes Richie upstairs to his bedroom to help him get ready to go to sleep and Richie is a little bit wild, but soon becomes sick shortly after, and runs to the bathroom as Howard waits by the door. After Richie gets sick, Howard takes him back to his bedroom, and holds a wet washcloth over his forehead and Richie believes his sickness was something he ate, and then Richie tells him they drank 72 beers Howard runs downstairs to retrieve the coffee. Marion makes Richie some coffee and Howard decides not to punish Richie, as he feels he has already been punished by his drunkenness. Richie before he falls asleep, offers his dad a cigar.

The next day at Arnold's, Potsie and Richie tell Fonzie about the party.
