Hold That Mork was the 13th episode in the second season of Mork & Mindy, also the 38th overll episode from the series. Co-written by Bruce Kalish and Philip John Taylor, the episode, which was directed by Howard Storm, originally aired on ABC-TV on November 25, 1979,

Synopsis

When Mork decides to try out for the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders, Nelson uses it as an opportunity to further his political career.

Plot summary

"Hold That Mork" was the dreaded episode that Robin Williams despised most of all, as Mork tries out for the NFL's Denver Broncos 'Pony Express' cheerleading squad. The girls drop in for a Boulder charity event, where Mork compares their attire to Liberace. After a workout session in Mindy's living room, Mork is refused an opportunity to join: "this is one Pony Express that carries no male!" PETTICOOAT JUNCTION's Linda Henning plays squad manager Pam Stockhaus, who allows Mork a tryout after accusations of sexism from Nelson Flavor (Jim Staahl). The game where Mork debuts was filmed at the Nov 11 1979 Broncos victory over the New England Patriots by a score of 45-10, proof that the series could sink even lower after Raquel Welch.

Trivia

  • Partially filmed at a game between the Broncos and New England in front of 74,000 fans at Mile High Stadium, where the Broncos won 45 to 10.
  • This was another story heaved upon the crew by ABC executives. "We're starting to go away from the innocent Mork to bizarre transvestite comedy," Robin Williams remarked.[1]
